After 2 Years in a Shelter, Collie Finds Rescue

Crockett was rescued by Texas Collie Rescue, from a shelter in Alabama where he’d been for over 2 years. He’d had very little human contact while there, and was very skittish. Crockett had been hit by a car prior to entering the shelter in Alabama and was paralyzed for a while. He never received vet care for his injuries. 🙁

Crockett's First Captain for the day, Jeff Spence.

Sure Jeff, I'll sit here in first class.

PnP pilot Jeff Spence (N46543) brought Crockett from Bessemer, AL to Jackson, MS. Nick and I then took him the rest of the way to Houston, TX. This was our longest PnP flight yet, but it was a great day for flying, and an even better day for Crockett as he finally escaped to a better life. Our flight to Jackson was smooth, although an overcast layer moved in under us shortly after we entered Louisiana but disappeared just after passing Natchez, MS. We had a good tailwind on the flight, and arrived 30 minutes early…just enough time to eat lunch before Jeff and his co-pilot Jamie arrived with Crockett.

Crockett was a bit skittish with us at first, but he warmed up to Nicholas pretty quickly. As you can see in the photos, they became pretty good “buds” on the flight back. We took a more northern route on the return trip, to escape the overcast that covered southern Louisiana and southern Mississippi. Smooth sailing all the way, until about 60 miles NE of Houston, when we had to descend to 3500ft to get under the same layer of overcast clouds that we’d first seen on departure.

Nicholas and Crockett pass the time.

The new family portrait?

Crockett was a great passenger, and we’re so excited that he’ll now receive plenty of loving care (and vet care!) with Texas Collie Rescue.

After all the affection pets have shown us, they deserve some in return. Subaru and Petmate are helping PnP provide that love and attention to our animal friends.

Thank you so much for all who were involved. Crockett is a very special dog and is receiving wonderful care at his new foster home. He also has his own facebook page now. Check it out.

What took SO long? How could such a gorgeous dog languish in a shelter for 2 years? Poor Lonely Lassie! Looks like this poor baby fell through some cracks, but I am so very grateful that he is finally out. After a long sentence in doggie prison he will now find love! I’m very sure of that! Your program is the awesomest!

Thank you for helping this wonderful dog! From what I have heard Crockett isn’t the only dog that PnP has helped lately. I will be looking forward to seeing the stories of the other deserving dogs that have flown to safety thanks to PnP.

I was working in the tower in Jackson the day Crockett and all came through. It was the first time we’d heard of the Pilotsnpaws organization and it made our day and melted our hearts to see such a great thing. Pilots giving their services for such a wonderful cause. Thank you so much for what all of you do.
