One of Art’s Rescuees is Helping Sick Kids

About three months ago, Art and his wife Patty transported some dogs from a shelter that was closing in South Carolina to Big Dog Ranch Rescue.  (Read the original story here.) Recently, Art had a chance meeting and was reunited briefly with one of the 23 dogs on that flight.

Art is a nurse in Florida.  He is working with a kid that has muscular dystrophy, is on a ventilator, and is end stage. He goes to a handicapped program a couple daya a week, and on occasion Art goes with him as he needs a vent nurse 24/7. During one of those trips, a volunteer brought in a 3 1/2 month old puppy named Bandit to play with the kids. Art was speaking with her, and she was explaining how this puppy came from a shelter that closed in South Carolina.

Bandit and his mom.

That sure perked up Art’s ears. It turned out she got the dog from Big Dog Ranch. She said that a pilot brought down 23 dogs, and this was one of them. They are in love with Bandit, and are deeply thankful to all the volunteers that saved her puppy. Talk about a small world!

Art showed her the pics, and her mouth dropped in disbelief. Usually, pilots never hear about the rescued animals again. This was the first time Art had the chance to see one of the dogs he helped rescue thriving in its new home.  What a sweet victory.

Great story. I guess I’m very lucky because I stay in touch with several dogs I have flown. Yellow Lab Gunner is one I flew and I stay in touch with his family and Gunner himself when Jodi brought him to the airport in FL when I dropped off several other dogs. What a great feeling to see Gunner.

Jim, you are a lucky guy. I have never seen one of our rescues after the fact. With the exception of the two my wife fell in love with and we adpoted. And if that keeps up we’ll need a bigger house! This was an exceptional experience though. This puppy is a volunteer too! To know one of the lives we saved is now working with handicapped kids and making a difference is so heartwarming!!! Without PNP, Big Dog Ranch, and pilots like you this wonderful life would have been ended in South Carolina as a two week old puppy. When she walked in, and I found out who they were I got a lump in my throat. There just are no words to describe the feeling knowing this puppy and Mom are working with the handicapped kids in this program. We’ll save them, “One by one, until there are none”!
