Shelter and Pilots Team Up to Find Pets Homes

Sam Taylor has secured his co-pilot, Amelia Earhart, to the seat and prepares to take flight to take the 8-month-old mixed breed dog to a foster family in Kansas. Taylor flew his single engine plane into the Jefferson City Memorial airport Friday morning and was on his way to Kansas with the pup in a short while. Amelia the dog now has a new home, and it’s far from her California, Mo., roots.

Amelia is an 8-month-old shepherd/hound mix that was found as a stray in California, then turned over to the California Veterinary Clinic. The clinic is the local shelter of sorts that has a contract with the city to do animal control.

Ruth Elledge, founder of Project SNaP, Spay Neuter and Protect, helped arrange Amelia’s transport from California to the Jefferson City airport, where she met Sam Taylor, volunteer pilot with Pilots N Paws, a non-profit group that helps connect adopting or foster families with rescue dogs across the country.

What a cute pup!!! Seriously, if I went on these transports with Sam we’d be overrun with pups at home as they would never make their destination!
