Allie Crosses the Cascades

Bruce took off on a beautiful fall day in his Bonanza A36 for a Pilots N Paws rescue, crossing some picturesque scenery in the process. He traveled from Emmett, ID (S78) to Puyallup, WA (KPLU).

Bruce left Boeing Field in Seattle, WA (KBFI) around 7am on his way to Sunnyside, WA (1S5) near Yakima. He departed a little light on gas with 35 gallons so as to avoid the expensive BFI fuel. Sunnyside had relatively inexpensive gas ($5.81 that day) and is easy to get in and out of, making it a perfect quick stop enroute. The weather was mediocre on the west side of the Cascades, so Bruce flew by instruments until he reached the east side of the Cascades and found severe clear skies.

From Sunnyside, it was on to Emmett, ID to pick up the border collie, then to Puyallup to meet up with her new foster parents and top the tanks before returning to BFI. Allie was originally Missy, but she never learned that name and it could be confused with another dog’s name at her foster home, so a new name was in order.

Allie, with Anita (who runs the shelter in Emmett) and one of her associates, Mark before leaving Emmett.

Total flight time: 5.6 hours in the A36, tailwinds on the way to Emmett, headwinds back. Bruce stayed low on the way home to avoid the strongest winds aloft, but it was smooth and the scenery made the slow trip back not so bad.
