Private Flight for Fifteen

December 30th, 2012 we started our 25th Pilots N Paws Rescue at (3M5) Moontown Airport in Huntsville, Alabama, our home base. Weather was good getting out of Moontown, so we headed to Jasper, AL to pick up 15 puppies and 1 dog from Tracy Rayburn. There were 3 shepherd/ rottweiler mix puppies. We had 5 very adorable lab puppies. Tyson was a lab mix and so sweet but a big boy weighing in at 65 pounds. We also loaded 7 rottweiler mix puppies. It is so exciting to see all of these puppies in crates getting to start a new lease on life.

With all passengers loaded we took off for Jeffersonville, IN. We met up with Mark Kozak, another Pilot N Paws pilot. There was snow on the ground when we landed, very clear, cold and beautiful. We transferred all of the puppies to Mark’s airplane and then he headed to Chicago where he was met by a rescue.

It is always very emotional for these rescuers to let the dogs go, but they know the animals are headed for a better life.

All rescues are complex rescues, but they end up very successful. We appreciate how hard the volunteers work facilitating constantly changing dogs, destinations, times, pilots, and weather.

Unfortunately many others aren’t as lucky, and as you all know, the only answer to this devastating issue is to spay/neuter/rescue. All of these dogs are really sweet, and they deserve to be curled up on the living room floor at night not tossed out like trash.

Great job, Todd & Mary! I have yet to meet you. I fly a 172 out of Pryor (DCU). Good write-up and great photos!

Bless you and your kind hearts! Action is better than tears and you are heroes in my book! Thank you for what you do for these poor dogs, they wouldn’t have a chance if it wasn’t for you! I wish all these puppies the loving homes they deserve! I am a great fan of Rottweilers and have been “Rottweilerless” since my beautiful angel Nikita died of cancer. If they were within driving distance of western Montana I would take TWO of them!

I want to thank all those involved in this project. I’ve adopted a local rescue in Wisconsin. My son and his family in Minneapolis rescued a lab-coon hound mix that came all the way from Missouri. There are so many varied stories, but they all end the same way……happy homes that are made even happier by loving and being loved by these wonderful dogs. Thank you!!

I have such respect for your organization. I know alot of those pups would have been put down if not for you & your other pilots. I wish I had the money to help finance you. If I should ever be lucky enough to hit the lottery, you & other rescue organizations will be the first ones to get a huge donation. I do try to donate at least once a month when I get my SSI but I have to pick who to donate that month because I can’t afford them all. God Bless you all.

I see the plight of shelters around the U.S. and would love to adopt one of these beauties, but my biggest concern is transportation………..I live in PA and one shelter I see most is in Texas. Could this be an opportunity. I shared the Pilots and Paws story with CARE, an organization that cares for animals in overcrowded shelters finding foster homes or forever homes. They have been amazed at all the out of state families wishing they could adopt, but transportation is a deterrent. Bless ALL of you for your kind hearts!!!!
