We love a happy pet story and reader Tricia Gesner shares a sweet one with us about two pretty kitties.

We were heartbroken when my black kitty cat, The Pooch, passed away in September at the age of 16. My husband and I had always talked about adopting two black kittens from PAWS Montclair. In October, we were ready to adopt and thought we would find two black kittens. We used PAWS Montclair and looked at the pictures of kitties posted on their website.

On October 17th, my husband and I drove 20 minutes to Maplewood to pick up brother and sister, “Charley and Harley”, 8-week-old kittens from the foster family. They had been with their foster family for just one week. Their story is touching.

The foster Mommy wrote in her blog: “Welcome to Maplewood, little ones. Four healthy and beautiful kittens were rescued from being euthanized last week at the eleventh hour. Thanks to the Pilots N Paws Rescue Program, they were flown from North Carolina to New Jersey for a second chance at life.”

They needed us and we needed them. (Even if they weren’t black!) We immediately fell in love with them and tweaked their names slightly to Charlie and Ginger.

I made an Instagram account for them earlier this year and they have nearly 700 followers. Charlie was featured on the coveted account Cats of Instagram in March with over 60,000 likes! Many of their followers think they have ocicat or bengel mix in them, but we can’t confirm.

This week, the new issue of In Touch (on newsstands today, in NYC) with a cover date July 29, features Charlie and Ginger on their Animal Overload page.
