Avery Flies to His Retirement Home

Avery is a precious and timid senior Wirehaired Fox Terrier who had been abandoned at a San Antonio, TX pound by a senior owner who could no longer care for the old boy. He was pulled by Julie Covey, a wonderful and kind-hearted rescuer in Austin, TX, who set out to find him a home.

In short order, Julie found Avery a forever home near Jackson, MS, and then began to try to find transport for him. On Sat., 8/31, Julie delivered Avery to pilot Alex Siegman at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.  Alex flew Avery to Pearland Regional Airport in Houston. A volunteer boarder picked up Avery for an overnight stay and delivered him back to Pearland at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Avery and pilot Wade Roberts took off at 8 a.m. to rendezvous with pilot Chris Danhauer in Mansfield, LA. After a quick transfer, Chris flew to Vicksburg, MS, where his new owner greeted Avery and drove a short distance to his new home near Jackson, TN.

Avery had an ear infection, a thyroid condition, and an arthritic condition; he was treated, is on meds and is happy in his new home. It turned out that he had a couple of sarcomas, but they appear to be slow-growing. The sweet old guy will live out his days in a loving and happy environment, receiving care and being spoiled.

My very first dog as a child was a Wire haired terrier. Linda. I loved her so much. She was poisoned and we lost her just a year later., I was so heartbroken, I never got another when I was older. Always Yorkies, Labs an Afghan and a Danish dogger. But my sweet Linda lives on in my heart, 60 years later. They are wonderful sweet doggies. So glad Avery was given a wonderful loving retirement. X

I am so happy to see that Avery was rescued. Great job. I have a wft and had another in the past. They are great, loving, smart dogs. My first wft did not live past 2 due to congenital defects. We were heartbroken when she passed. We did everything possible to save her. It cost about $ 3000 but if it would have saved her it would have been worth it. We have a great wft now, she is 6 and hope she lives to be 20+. Hope Avery has a great life. Love to those who rescued her.

Great story. I’m sure Avery’s previous owner would be happy to learn that Avery is safe. Has anyone notified him/her back in San Antonio?
