Avery Flies to His Retirement Home
Avery is a precious and timid senior Wirehaired Fox Terrier who had been abandoned at a San Antonio, TX pound by a senior owner who could no longer care for the old boy. He was pulled by Julie Covey, a wonderful and kind-hearted rescuer in Austin, TX, who set out to find him a home.
In short order, Julie found Avery a forever home near Jackson, MS, and then began to try to find transport for him. On Sat., 8/31, Julie delivered Avery to pilot Alex Siegman at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Alex flew Avery to Pearland Regional Airport in Houston. A volunteer boarder picked up Avery for an overnight stay and delivered him back to Pearland at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Avery and pilot Wade Roberts took off at 8 a.m. to rendezvous with pilot Chris Danhauer in Mansfield, LA. After a quick transfer, Chris flew to Vicksburg, MS, where his new owner greeted Avery and drove a short distance to his new home near Jackson, TN.
Avery had an ear infection, a thyroid condition, and an arthritic condition; he was treated, is on meds and is happy in his new home. It turned out that he had a couple of sarcomas, but they appear to be slow-growing. The sweet old guy will live out his days in a loving and happy environment, receiving care and being spoiled.
