FB shelter pic
In August of 2012 my husband and I saw the beautiful grey face of a senior boxer girl on facebook – and immediately fell in love. We knew we wanted to save her and bring her into our family – but there was a problem – trying to figure out how to get her from Georgia to Wisconsin – safely.
She was emaciated – not eating well in the shelter and on top of that had just
developed a terrible upper respiratory infection – possibly even pneumonia.
Snotty from being nose sick
With the help of several volunteers we safely got her to Nashville. She spent a few nights there and we were so happy to find out that a volunteer pilot through Pilots N Paws was able to fly her from Murfreesboro, TN to Indianapolis! This would shave off some of her transport time and get her to us more quickly so we could nurse her back to health.
Once in Indianapolis a friend drove down to pick her up and we finally got to meet this little lady in northern IL later that day. She is a trooper – being transported across the country in 1 weekend!
We have now had Dharma as a part of our family for the past 17 months and are so blessed! We are so thankful for all of the volunteers who helped her get here – and especially the pilot for taking time out of his busy schedule to fly Dharma even closer! I wanted to get his information from the beginning and send him updates, etc. but the information was not relayed to us. ***EDITOR’S NOTE: Pilots N Paws did know who the pilot was based on the tail number pictured on his plane. PNP Pilot Cary Mariash made this life saving flight, and after 17 months, Lauren now knows the name of the man who helped rescue her beloved Dharma!!***
Beautiful
Dharma is loving life – she enjoys taking walks, sleeping on the couch, occasional play time, and snuggling with her brother Rocky as well as us. She enjoys being outside (when the weather is warmer) and is so happy.
We can’t thank Pilots N Paws enough for helping be a part of Dharma’s journey to us!
Thanks again – if you do find out who the pilot was (hoping the pics with the plane number on it will help) – please thank him from us. Without his help we would not have this little lady with us.
