Saving Grace

Grace was surrendered to an animal shelter in Alabama in July. She is a Cocker Spaniel, but you wouldn’t have known it to look at her. Grace was a puppy mill dog, had never been groomed or vetted. Her fur was so matted that it had torn away chunks of skin and she had birthed so many puppies that her uterus had prolapsed. Her owners took her to the shelter to be put to sleep, she was of no more use to them. The shelter called the local animal control officer, Esther Harris, who picked her up and took her to the vet. They shaved her down, treated the open sores and spayed her as soon as it was safe. In the meantime, an angel named Carolyn DeJonker called me about a dream she had. She told me that there was a little cocker out there that needed her, in her dream she called her Grace and she wondered if I knew of any. The next day, I saw the post about this “unnamed” little girl. We flew to Eufaula to pick her up and took her to her forever home in North Alabama where she was welcomed by another rescue cocker named Carson and a shih tzu named Gizzy. Grace fit right in and lives the life of a spoiled house pet instead of a money maker.
