Flying Hamilton and Geena
Hamilton and Geena were two six-month-old Great Pyrenees pups (total weight: about 160 lbs.!) who needed transport that day from Dallas-Houston to catch ground transport the next morning to New England (I know it doesn’t make sense to fly north to fly dogs south for ground transport the next day to the northeast, but that’s how the transport network works); Hamilton already had a home waiting.
Departure from Pearland was 9 a.m. I checked my weather sources at 6 a.m., called for a flight briefing at 7 a.m. (there was nothing unusual forecast, except for the typical afternoon pop-up thunderstorms this time of year). I arrived at the hangar at 8 a.m., just as all hell broke loose: torrential rain and heavy cloud-cloud and cloud-ground lightning. I waited an hour for things to break and dissipate enough to be able (with on-board NEXRAD radar, Stormscope and the help of Houston Approach controllers) to circumnavigate the storm cells and areas of high precipitation, pick up the Pyrs and deliver them back to Pearland Regional (again with the assistance of Houston’s great air traffic controllers).
223 is now down for a week or so to address some minor mechanical/maintenance and avionics issues. I’m likewise down to spend time with my ailing Pif.

UPDATE: From Dana, “Both Genna and Hamilton have a forever home… adopted from Texas to live in the beautiful Northeast. Thank you so much Wade for getting Genna and Hamilton to transport headed to their forever homes! Prayers for your baby!”
