Flying Hamilton and Geena

Flying Hamilton and Geena

Hamilton and Geena were two six-month-old Great Pyrenees pups (total weight: about 160 lbs.!) who needed transport that day from Dallas-Houston to catch ground transport the next morning to New England (I know it doesn’t make sense to fly north to fly dogs south for ground transport the next day to the northeast, but that’s how the transport network works); Hamilton already had a home waiting.

Departure from Pearland was 9 a.m. I checked my weather sources at 6 a.m., called for a flight briefing at 7 a.m. (there was nothing unusual forecast, except for the typical afternoon pop-up thunderstorms this time of year). I arrived at the hangar at 8 a.m., just as all hell broke loose: torrential rain and heavy cloud-cloud and cloud-ground lightning. I waited an hour for things to break and dissipate enough to be able (with on-board NEXRAD radar, Stormscope and the help of Houston Approach controllers) to circumnavigate the storm cells and areas of high precipitation, pick up the Pyrs and deliver them back to Pearland Regional (again with the assistance of Houston’s great air traffic controllers).

223 is now down for a week or so to address some minor mechanical/maintenance and avionics issues. I’m likewise down to spend time with my ailing Pif.

UPDATE: From Dana, “Both Genna and Hamilton have a forever home… adopted from Texas to live in the beautiful Northeast. Thank you so much Wade for getting Genna and Hamilton to transport headed to their forever homes! Prayers for your baby!”

I watch your Facebook page and enjoy your stories about transporting precious dogs to their forever homes. How do the rest of us get to BE their forever homes?

I try to include contact names and names of rescue groups in my reports. You could try searching for them, or contact me directly ([email protected]). Be advised, though, that there’s often a several-week delay before these reports are posted, and many transports occur without reports. You might also keep an eye on the transport request forum.

    Best,
    Wade

Do you ever fly to northern Wisconsin? I am located Manitowish Waters and we have a airport with a paved runway plus a grass runway. We would drive south if you had a flight going south of us in Wisc. We are about 30 miles south of the U.P. of MI. We are looking for a female up to 5 years old and like goldens or labs although the two Pyrenees look nice. Doesn’t have to be pure bred. I have a handicap so not looking for a super active dog.

I’m not sure if you can help me but some years ago when I moved to Florida I had a German Shepherd and a house, she was the best friend and protector a family could ask for. I was partially disabled and lost my home and had to move into an apt. and they wouldn’t allow pets I had no choice but to give her to another family. My life has never been the same. I’m not prejudice to other dogs but I had one when I was younger and he was killed.I am retired and on disability and in my home for 6 years. My fiancee and I can’t have children but have wanted a Shepherd for a long time but the places we’ve checked want a lot of money, Love we have lots of, is there any help for us, caring for a dog is in our budget it would be the most loved and cared for on the planet.

Pilots N Paws does not match adopters and rescue animals. We just help with transportation. Please check with a rescue or shelter in your area. If you still don’t find a good match, you can try petfinder.com, and if you find the perfect friend in a far off place, Pilots N Paws may be able to help unite you. Good luck.
