Martha’s Vineyard Helping Homeless Animals (MVHHA) has teamed up with Pilots N Paws (www.pilotsnpaws.org) and has taken in 3 lucky puppies. Pilots N Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization. Their mission is intended to be a meeting place for those who rescue, shelter or foster animals, and volunteer pilots and plane owners willing to assist with the transportation of animals. On Saturday, August 30, pilot Jack Merritt, who is a volunteer with Pilots N Paws, flew in to Martha’s Vineyard Airport with 3 adorable puppies. The puppies are originally from a high kill shelter in Alabama. The puppies were transported from Crossing Paths Animal Rescue in Pennsylvania. Jack Merritt and Julia Altman, owner of Greenmore Farm Animal Rescue, transported the puppies to MVHHA to find loving and permanent homes.

MVHHA was approved in May by the MA Dept of Agriculture to take in cats and dogs from other states that are in high kill shelters. MVHHA has an isolation room where the animals reside for 48 hours and are then taken to Dr. Steve Atwood at Animal Health Care in Edgartown, to receive their MA Health Certificate. After receiving their Health Certificate these animals are placed up for adoption. The kittens and puppies are all up to date with vaccinations and spayed and neutered before they are adopted out. MVHHA is excited in our new adventure in rescuing animals from being euthanized and giving them the opportunity in having a loving family. MVHHA has received from New York City shelters, a mom with 7 kittens (7 days old), another mom with 3 babies (10 days old) and 4 kittens that were from 6 weeks old to one year old. All these kittens (and moms) were on the list to be destroyed but MVHHA stepped in to give them hope and love. We are located at 25 June Ave. in Oak Bluffs. All donations are greatly appreciated and can be mailed to MVHHA, 25 June Ave., Vineyard Haven, MA, 02568. We welcome volunteers and you can find the list of our adoptable animals on www.petfinder.com.
