Reuniting Noble, a Career Military Serviceman’s Dog

Zaira B Causey writes: Noble was bought/adopted from an Okinawa, Japan breeder when my career military serviceman friend, Kalae Paoa, found out how they kill the runts of the litter or the ones that do not meet their standards. He took off two weeks to bottle feed Noble and get him healthy. When Noble was 6 months old, Kalae got orders from the Navy to move to Dallas, TX and attend some training in between the move.

In late September 2013, Kalae and Noble landed in Seattle, WA to pick up his car. Kalae drove to Houston to drop off Noble with me and continued to Florida for training. In late November, after training, Kalse stopped in Houston to see Noble; we both agreed that since he had no place to live but a hotel for awhile Noble would continue to stay with us. While Kalae was looking for a place to live, the Navy was thinking of moving him again to Detroit; with no idea about the location of his assignment, we decided Noble should remain in Houston until the future seemed certain.

While Noble was with us, he grew up from a puppy to a little boy who loved the fact that the home he was at fostered puppies: it meant a never-ending supply of play buddies. He went thru dental (little dogs often need help getting rid of their puppy teeth), leg fracture (Noble LOVES to play– sometimes he forgets he is a little dog) and neuter surgery with us but his dad remained sure being with us was best for his little Noble.

In January 2014, we learned that the Navy would not be moving Kalae to Detroit, but, instead, would move him to a different office where the work schedule would be 12 hour days / 7 days a week until he was moved back to his regular duty location. Obviously, these were not the right conditions for a reunion. Kalae finally was moved to a normal work station and schedule in September 2014.

This is when Wade Roberts from Pilots N Paws came in. Noble flew from Houston to Dallas on September 20th 2014, and was reunited with Kalae after a year apart. I am very thankful for Wade: if it hadn’t been for him, their separation would have been longer.
