Responding to private messages

When I get a private email message from someone posting a transport it comes to me through PnP. If I reply to the message am I replying to the poster or to Pilots and Paws?

Also, the email tells me the PnP name of the poster. How can I locate that name on the PnP forum to send them a private message? I went to the "Members" page but it is not in alphabetical order and has hundreds of names that start with a B say. They are in order of joining the forum, it looks like.

Let me see if I can help you out here. There are two ways for people to contact each other using the forum board. One is by private message, the other is by emailing through the board. If you click on someone's user name, you will see both of these options. We used to allow email addresses to be shown, which made it easy for you to contact another member, but we had a number of complaints from users who did not want their email addresses exposed. We honored those requests.

Here is what to do when you receive an auto notification. First, read the email and see if it says "this is a private message sent to you......).

To retrieve and reply to a private message:
There will be a link in the body of the auto notification email for you to click on that will take you to the forum board. You must log in to read and reply to that private message. On the upper left of each page you will see User Control Pane and then right next to that, ( 1 new message) the View your posts. Click on the 1 new message. That takes you directly to your inbox on the forum board. You can reply from there.

To reply to an email that was sent to you by a user on the forum:

Read the auto notification email that was sent to you. It will normally give you the entire message to read and the username. It should also have a "Reply to" in the header of that email. Just hitting reply to the email will send it back to the Pilots N Paws mail because this was generated through our forum board. Thanks to others outside of our forum who abused the use of emails, we can only process emails to you from our server. Unless of course you choose to have your email address in any of your posts or sig lines. So, look in the header for the email address that says reply to and copy and paste it from there.

Any time you want to contact a member using their username, click on the members section and when that window opens, you will see a Find Member at the top of the member list window that opens. Click on that. You can then enter the username and it will take you directly to them for contact, no need to scroll through thousands of member names.

If you are still having difficulty with this, please send me a private note to [email protected] and I will be happy to walk you through this. I will also ask our technical person to put this along with screenprints under the FAQ section for both pilots and rescues/others.
