Your user at phpBB 'CarolC1' suggested I join you folks, I provide support on the phpBB website as support team member 'Pit$bull'.
If I can assist in any way just let me know.

The answer is a resounding YES, we can certainly use your help. Steve has been our lifesaver regarding keeping this board going and Carol C has helped us tremendously with her knowledge and willingness to volunteer. I am sure both will be in touch with you. Love your username!Pit$bull wrote:Your user at phpBB 'CarolC1' suggested I join you folks, I provide support on the phpBB website as support team member 'Pit$bull'.

Thank you for your generous offer.......

Thanks so much for the generous offer. We have plenty of work that needs doing.Pit$bull wrote:Your user at phpBB 'CarolC1' suggested I join you folks, I provide support on the phpBB website as support team member 'Pit$bull'.

Here's a short list of what we're looking for:
- A 'completed' button: This will be a button available on topics in the 'animals needing transport' forum (f=5) when viewed by the owner of the thread or an administrator. Clicking on this button will move the thread to the 'completed' forum (f=?). This will help remove some of the clutter in the rides forum.
- Notify pilots of new requests: This mod will notify all pilots within a certain range of the transport that a new request has been posted. We have the lat/lon of both ends of the transport request (zip code is required on the rides forum) as well as the lat/lon of the pilot (home airport is a custom user field). We've got a zipcode lat/lon database as well as an airport lat/lon database.
- Upgrade phpbb to latest and greatest: The last set of upgrades I did took some doing. There was a server timeout during the merge function that the 1and1 server wouldn't tolerate. I ended up merging on a local machine and uploading the code. That was two versions ago. Also, the mods (hacks) I made for the zipcode functionality never merges properly.
- Fix backups. The backup times out if all tables are selected. I have to limit the number of tables selected and do several backups, one for each group of tables. As you can imagine, the backups don't get done as often as they should.
Re: Pilots N Paws looking for PhpBB support
Unfortunately I'm not a MOD writer, I suggest posting in the MOD requests forum http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewforum.php?f=72 That's all these fellows do and they are very proficient, If it can be done, they can do it.
On the backups I suggest using phpmyadmin to make any database backups, it can be accessed via your hosting control panel. I never recommend using the phpBB backup utility.
Also be sure to keep complete file backups.
The auto update package has been greatly improved for the latest version, even if the zipcode 'hack' won't merge correctly it shouldn't be a large job to re-add and I feel the update will be worth the effort.
