I posted a transport request yesterday from Baltimore to Denver and contacted several pilots who, according to the locater, travel between my area and the area in which my rescue cat will be re-homed. As of yet, I have not received a transport offer. I realize that I may simply need to to be more patient. I also realize that, perhaps, an offer will not will not be made.
My concern, after reading some messages on this site, is that I will be perceived as someone who is trying to have my personal pet transported at no cost. This is not the case. Two weeks ago, I adopted the kitten from a couple who had rescued her from an abusive situation. However, they had several pets and could not afford to take proper care of her. I adopted her with the intention of spaying and vetting her to improve adoptability, then placing her in a local rescue. I did have her spayed and vetted (at my own expense), but after a thorough search of three nearby states, found that all rescues organizations are full. This is partly due to the poor economy and the time of year, with many rescues being over-run with the number of kittens born in the spring. Even no-kill shelters in the area have waiting lists!
Unfortunately, I am not in a position to keep the kitten, as my apartment does not allow pets. After an exhaustive search, I found a wonderful home in Denver with a couple who have fostered this breed and are willing to give her a permanent home! Now, I need to find a way to get her there. I would appreciate any suggestions -- I have the kitten's best interest at heart, and do not want to be mistaken as someone who is trying to take advantage of the kindness of the volunteers.
