501c3 APPROVAL GRANTED!!

PilotsnPaws is now officially a 501c3 corporation.

According to a letter dated 3/3/2009 we are an exempt corporation and contributions such as expenses incurred doing a transport are treated as charitable donations. The effective date of the exepmtion was 11/5/2008 so if you did a rescue transport on or after that date you may treat those expenses as a contribution to Pilots N Paws. Your accountant can advise you of the requirements.

Good job, Jon and Debi (and whoever else was involved)

This should help things along.

Thanks Steve!

As Jon and I stated several weeks ago, we felt this was an excellent way to do our part to help give back something to the pilots who are giving so selflessly to help animals in need! We are thrilled about our new status and as Jon stated, this is retroactive to November 5, 2008. Each pilot will of course need to check with their accountant for advise on deductions. This is good news for all of us!

Pilots, we were informed that you will need to make your initial contact with the rescue groups you are assisting via the website board. I realize that most of you do this but once you have established a good working relationship with a rescue, you may also be working privately. With our 501c3 status you will need to make your contact through the website. Jon can correct me if I am wrong?

There is also a form on our homepage that you are welcome to print out and use to keep track of your flights.

Thank you all for continuing to make Pilots N Paws a Success!

Debi is correct. In order for a transport to be treated as a charitable donation the need should be posted on the pilotsnpaws site and the pilot should respond to that request.

We are not trying to keep score or garner any control over transports, but we are following advice we received from a CPA so you can get the tax benefits. Once you have responded if the pilot or rescue choose to finalize the details of the transport via phone or email or smoke signals there is no problem. On the PNP site is the form you can use to document a transport, and if you provide all the details, plus get signatures from the sending and receiving parties you should have ample proof of the transport. The amount of the charitable donation is up to you and your accountants to determine. There are so many possible ways to treat the expenses we cannot suggest what is the best way for you.

"HOT DOG"!!! No pun intended, LOL. This is fantastic, although, I'm sure we, as pilots, would have continued to do this without it but every little bit helps, as they say. Great job and thank you very much.

I would like to thank you ALL and congratulate you on the 501 c 3. I am the coordinator for Fla/Ga for Bearded Collie Rescue and P&P has made two rescue flights for us so far. This has saved us so much time and effort. The dogs travelled well (we provided the crates, food, water, leashes and collars without being asked) and are doing well in their new homes.
Unfortunately the economic status of many (giving up their homes and not finding new lodgins where dogs are allowed) is increasing our quantity of rescues. I can not thank those pilots involved enough for their generosity as well as their charitable care. I am extremely grateful that the pilots may now see some other benefit for the altruism by having a tax deduction.
Once again, THANK YOU for what you are doing.
