Transport Coordinators?

I've seen a few people described as transport coordinators. I hope someone can help me through this process (I've only volunteered for driving for others).
I'm trying to get 2 senior, morbidly obese beagles from a kill shelter in Texas to our rescue in mid-Michigan. It seems like that might be too far for plane only or vehicle only so was thinking if I could combine both (which end is plane, which is driving, etc)?
I have no idea how to do this or the timing as the shelter wants the dogs out asap (minimal donations for boarding, vet certificates).
I feel overwhelmed and don't know where to start.
ANY help is much appreciated.
Megan

hi,

I know that Petfinder.com has a section for transport needs. There are others also. If you type in animal/rescue transports on the web or look in Yahoo under Groups and then select animals or rescue or transport there are alot out there. I've rescued very young dogs, pregnant dogs and cats from South Carolina to New York thru PnP. That being said, you will need to have several pilots and each of them doing ONE leg of the journey. It is very time=consuming but worth it. There are also some other plane transports but most are fee-based. Generally, I try to only request PnP if I have animals who can't travel long distances in other ways (like a 2-day trip by car for a pregnant dog or very young puppies).

Thanks - we suddenly got a donation and were able to arrange for a dog transport through Dog Runners. Log trip, but at least their on their way. Thanks for your response!! I'll keep it for future reference.
