How heart wrenching to walk up and down the aisle of a gassing shelter and deciding which of those innocent faces you can help save? This was the task recently of a rescue volunteer in Jackson County, NC. One of those faces looking back at her was a 6-7 yr old Border Collie. He was a stray and his previous owner never came or called the shelter looking for him. His time was up! With his age, it would be very unlikely that he would be adopted. The volunteer pulled him and gave him the name, “Ivan.”

Saturday, July 7, 2012, Ivan found out that he really enjoys flying in a plane rather than riding in a car to his new foster home with Atlantic Region Central Border Collie Rescue (ARCBCR) in Richmond, VA. The 1st leg flew to Asheville and picked him up from his guardian angel that rescued him and handed him over to Ken and Cindy Menzie that flew out of Raleigh, NC earlier that morning. This would be their 3rd PnP mission. They said he settled right in on the backseat and slept most of the way to Raleigh.

The 2nd leg pilot, MaryBeth Wicker, flew down from Chesterfield, VA to meet the Menzie’s with Ivan. MaryBeth said he walked right up on the wing of the plane and into the pilot seat. When she pointed to the crate in the back, Ivan walked in and sat down, ready to fly. This would be MaryBeth’s 25th mission. She already completed 3 in the past 2 weeks!

With the help of the wonderful PnP pilots and the rescue volunteer that pulled Ivan from the shelter, he may not still be with us today. He has now been given the 2nd chance of finding a new family with the help of an ARCBCR volunteer.

Ivan wants to say “THANK YOU” to all that help.
