Hey Pilots,

Think we can fit a litter of 2 month old pups? 6 in all. Can all go
together in one medium kennel. Right now we have...

Chloe 5 month old Shepherd X - roughly 30 pounds (seat belt then crate)
Shadow 11 month old Shepherd X - roughly 50 pounds (seat belt then crate)

1st kennel: 6 month old Shepherd X - roughly 30 pounds, 2 month old
Shepherd X - roughly 15 pounds, 2 month old Shepherd X - roughly 15 pounds

=140 pounds

Possible 2nd kennel: 6 x 2 month old pups - they look about 8-10 pounds each.

140 + 60 = 200 pounds

Attached are pictures. :-)

I am scheduled for SMO - MOD departing SMO around 9:00am

Will have more information on space availability later today.

Hi Alexis,

I will be flying into the Seattle area. I actually keep my plane in Auburn ( S50) just south of Seattle. I wont want to fly into SEA it is so big now that they are just really a comercial airline airport. There are a lot of airports in the area though that I can meet at. Who will be getting the dogs from me ?

As far as my cargo payload goes - space becomes more the issue then weight usually. Are we going to try to get both of the German Shepards ? I have 1 large kennel installed in my plane and it takes up the entire cargo area - 2 Shepards should fit in there just fine , but I dont know if these 2 already know each other?

Gary

Thanks Gary!! Will you be flying into SEA correct?

What is the max cargo load for you both?

Jason

Either one of those should be fine. If it works out I am going to go to Tracy,CA that tuesday for business and then I will meet you as early as possible Wed.

Talk to you soon

Gary

Any wed or thur should be ok. MCE or MOD would be best if you can do that
......................................................................................................
Jason,

I could do Sacramento or maybe even the San Fransisco area if that would be better for you.
I could make a Wed meeting work. Sounds like your days off are wed and thurs.

Unfortunately I just realized that I have a business meeting this week so I will not be able to do this until next week (March 11).

If that will work for you and Alexis then I will plan on it and we will hope the weather cooperates.

Alexis,
If this needs to be done sooner then maybe somebody else will be available. When I replied to your message yesterday I was in Boise Idaho returning from another transport so I didn't check my schedule until today.

Take Care

Gary

Gary,
How far south can you get. farther the better. Sacramento is a push for me, a bit south of that would be ideal, but sac exec is doable. wed's/thur's

Hi again,

I just received this email from another pilot that posts on Pilots N Paws.

Hi Alexis,

I would be happy to help. If we could find a California Pilot that is able
to fly from LA to northern California then I could meet them and fly the
leg from there to Seattle.

I have a large kennel installed in my plane that could probably hold 2
shepards depending on their size and if they get along with each other. I
just transported a 150 pound Komondor last weekend and he fit just fine.

Hope this helps and talk to you soon.

Gary

I'm hoping you'd be able to help with this transport??

Let me know.

Thanks Jason!

-Alexis

Unfortunately, my budget can only handle about 250 miles since I rent the aircraft. the Sacramento area would be the limit for now.

Dear Jason,

We have 2 adult German Shepherds and possibly 3 puppies who need transport
from Los Angeles to Seattle, WA. We can originate from either BUR or SMO
and coordinate for any day you are available.

Please let me know if you can help.

Thanks!!

Hi,

I would like to take as many dogs as possible while we are going but I don't think I will be able to fit all of these in one trip. Here is what I have.

The kennel installed in the back of my plane is 42 inches long, 25 inches wide , and 28 inches high. This kennel pretty much takes up all of the cargo space up to my front seats. So besides what can fit in that kennel I could only take 1 additional small size portable cage - something that could fit on the front seat.

I will go tomorrow and put a small kennel inside the big kennel and see how that looks for space because maybe I could put a small kennel in the big one and then put the 2 bigger dogs in. We just have to consider that my flight will be at least 5 hours so I don't want the dogs to be to cramped to the point that they are uncomfortable. I will stop half way so they can go to the bathroom and stretch but it is still a fairly long ride.

What do you think?

I have never taken more then 2 dogs at time so I have not had to figure this much out.

Take care

Gary

Alexis

I am sure if we post a listing on pilotsnpaws for another trip for whatever dogs we cant get on this flight that we will be able to put together another flight. I can do a second flight either back down to the bay area if Jason can meet again. Also we might even be able to break it up into 3 legs with a middle pilot meeting in the bay area and flying to near the cal. oregon border. If we could do that then I could fly the last leg from there and end up farther north near maybe bellingham so the ground pick up would be closer to Canada.

Just a thought

Gary,
FWIW (for what it's worth!) My cat carrier can hold a couple pups on your front seat or front floor.

Jason,

That might work just fine for a couple pups. I am going to go down to my plane tomorrow to see if I think there is a better use of the space to accomadate as many dogs as possible,

Just for self-planning purposes:

Chloe, Rear seat Doggy belt, 30 pounds
Shadow, Rear seat doggy belt, 50 pounds
....................
OK

Kennel 1
Shep1,2,3, Baggage Area 1, 60 pounds
....................
OK

Kennel 2
Pups 1-6, Baggage Area 2, 60 pounds
....................
OK

Bring all your cages, kennels and carriers if you can. Blankets and pillows too (ones that you won't mind getting dirty).

Remember to not feed or water a little while before departure so they don't have the urge. The first leg shouldn't take too long.

I may try to be at SMO around 8am instead of 0830.
