This transport tried many ways to fail, but our pilot, Sergio, stuck with it and made it happen.
First, the weather today was just too marginal to take a chance on, so the flight was called off. Sergio decided he still wanted to get these dogs where they needed to be, and decided to make the trip by ground. This scrambled the schedule, and we didn't recover well.
Once he got to Katy, no one was there and the Houston-end co-ordinator could not be reached. It turns out that he was quite a bit earlier than was expected. We scrambled and arranged a meeting.
Sergio was soon back on the road, and with an extra, unexpected dog.
Once Sergio was back in San Antonio, again no one was there to meet him. This time, the meeting party had had her cell phone die, and doesn't have another way to be reached. Again, we scrambled and found someone who could take the dogs until she could be reached to come get them.
All the panics are now over and the dogs are all where they need to be. We owe MANY, MANY thanks to Sergio for seeing this through in spite of our bumbling.
Lesson learned: Don't start a transport with one co-ordinator and hand it off to another. Things slip through the cracks.
