Hello!
Looking to move a 10 month old/30 pound GSD mix from the Mojave airport to anywhere in the NYC area. we are located in Litchfield County Connecticut and JFK, LGA, EWR, BDL and HPN are all about the same distance from our home. I am willing to drive to Boston or Providence as well.
Many thanks in advance!
Ashli

Two comments.......That is an exceptionally long distance for a general aviation transport. That is likely a far better transport for a commercial flight. There is a link on the PNP home page to information regarding commercial flights.

The airports you list are all typically used by commercial carriers so that might be the best approach.

At the sending end the rescue may have to bring the pup to the closest commercial airport.

Second comment that we rarely discuss, but there are times it needs to be recognized. Flying general aviation planes is not inexpensive. Every transport done by general aviation planes is at the expense of the pilots. Adding to the cost is the fact that for every mile a pilot flies with the animal on board, another mile is flown empty to return home. Using the most inexpensive costs of general aviation aircraft operation I would estimate the flight from Mohave to NYC for one pup will run about $4500 all paid for by the volunteer pilots.

Thank you for the reply. I honestly had/have no idea how this all works as this was suggested to me by one of the people working to get dogs out of this kill shelter. Having learned since posting this that Mojave is mostly military and private plans I am actually looking at either flying out there myself to get her or i did find a company from the Best Friends web site that will fly from LAX to NYC for $300.
Many thanks though!!!
You are all doing an incredible thing.

Hello,

Jon is correct. This is a very long flight for the general aviation community. The commercial airlines could have this transport completed in one day. I will copy/paste some info to get you started.

Thank you for joining PilotsNPaws! This is basically a forum for animal rescues and pilots (both commercial and general aviation) as well as other volunteers to communicate in order to coordinate the transport of animals in need of a new location.

The transport request you have posted is quite a long distance and as such it may best served by the use of the commercial airlines. Please read our article from our home page (http://pilotsnpaws.org/ ) , titled “Commercial Aviation Assistance.” It will give you information on how commercial airline transports operate and how to get started on arrangements.

Next, please check our Board Index (Pilots Volunteering Transport, Animal Transport Board) and go to “Commercial Aviation Personnel Transport Offers.” In there, you may a commercial airline employee who has volunteered to travel with animals. Just contact them via the Post/Reply link.

Lastly, please let me know if I can help with arrangements with the commercial airline transport. I have carried many animals over the years….all successfully reaching their destination.

Thank you,

Sarah Murphy Case
Northwest/Delta Airlines Pilot

In addition to the info in my previous post, I would suggest checking Jet Blue Airlines, American Airlines, Contential Airlines or Northwest/Delta Airlines.

Please let me know if you need assistance finding the information for commercial transport with these airlines.

Good Luck

Sarah
