C172 Back Seat Removal

C172 Back Seat Removal

Is an A&P mechanic required to remove and/or replace the back seat in a 172? I'd like to have more room, but I'm not sure if it's legal for me to do so. Also, if it is legal, how much trouble is it to remove a '69 C172 back seat?

I removed my rear seat and had my A&P do a log book entry with new weight & balance when the rear seat is removed. I keep a copy of both W&B (with/without rear seat) in the plane and make airframe log book entries when I pull/re-install the seat to show which W&B is applicable. No other paperwork is required.
