Any FAR restrictions for private pilots?

I don't believe FAR 91.146 applies to what PNP is doing, so I'd feel safe in saying that there is no 500 hour minimum for pilots.

Are there any FAR restrictions of which to be aware?

Are the fees always handled by the pilot or a pro-rata split with the on-board handler or does the kennel ever contribute to the cost of the transport? I believe only on-board passengers can help a private pilot cover expenses, but I'm unaware if the FARs state anything about the owner of "charitable" cargo.

If I may ask, what have PNP pilots typically done to cover costs? 100% by the pilot, 50/50 split with the handler/passenger, or other?

I cover all costs associated with the flight: fuel, landing fees, etc. I then deduct all these costs as a charitable contribution to PnP, since they are 501c3. Retain the paperwork, check with your tax person, etc. etc.

That doesn't mean I haven't accepted small token gifts, they are nice, the FAA doesn't need to know about that.....
