DONE!Transportation from Stateville NC to New Orleans

I am in the process of adopting a greyhound named Bally. He is in Statesville, NC and we need to get him to New Orleans. He weighs 100 lbs. What do I do now?

Stateville NC to Greenville SC (approx 250 miles)
Greenville SC to Atlanta Ga (app 142 miles)
Atlanta GA to Tuscaloosa AL (app 207 miles)
Tuscaloosa AL to Jackson MS (app 177 miles)
Jackson MS to New Orleans LA (app 180 miles)

Please let me know if these distances are unrealistic, or if there's a better route.
I am going to start contacting pilots along this route now.
Suggestions/volunteer pilots are appreciated! please contact me.

There is an airshow at Tuscaloosa this coming weekend, with a TFR in effect from 2-5 April 09.

Here is a route that is almost a straight line. May have to bend a bit to stay out of the ATL Class B. Distances / times from AOPA Internet Flight Planner for a Piper Cherokee (CAS 115 kts)

What do you think?

3. 4A7 Clayton County / Tara Field, GA 123 miles to
4. KMGM Montgomery, AL 70 miles to
5. KMVC Monroeville, AL 162 miles to
6. KNEW Lakefront (East NO) LA (There are several small airfields around the New Orleans area - OP, which airport is best for you?)

Total 576 miles, estimated total flight time 5:03

If it works, I may be able to cover 3-4, 4-5, or 3-5

I just talked to Pat (Greytexplorer), and here is the proposed lineup for tomorrow's transport for Bally.

KSVH - KGMU Jim Pike Depart 0740L, arrive @ KGMU @ ~0840L N-3LY
KGMU - 4A4 Mike Rigg Depart ~0900L, arrive @ 4A4 @ ~1030L N654M
4A4 - KMGM Art Ragsdale Depart ~1100L, arrive @ KMGM @ ~1100L N103AR
KMGM - KHKS Tom Bragg Depart ~1130L, arrive @ KHKS @ ~1330L N43125
KHKS - KNEW or other NOLA location Sonny Ruff Transportation to be determined upon arrival at KHKS - possibly by ground transport.

Everyone please take a look at the planned times, including enroute times. Most likely some headwinds for everyone heading west, with nice tailwinds for the return trips! In my limited experience, about 30 minutes ground time between flights works well for comfort breaks for both 2-legged and 4-legged travelers. Pilots, please call the cell phone of your next handoff prior to your departure with any timing updates. If anyone hasn't done so, please also e-mail Pat your cell #.

If something is out of whack, please post it here and e-mail Pat so she can keep the running tally on Bally. Thanks to everyone for the flexibility in putting this together.

I just got a call from Sonny. They took Bally to Hammond, LA, where Liz drove to meet them halfway. I'm told Bally got out, ran to Liz and started giving her kisses. They jumped in the car and headed back to NOLA.

Thanks to everyone who coordinated, flexed, flew, and drove to make this entire mission happen!
