05 Oct - Late night two-puppy transport

Post by jdunham » Sat Sep 29, 2012 8:38 pm

Number of animals being transported: 2
Breeds, weight, age: Bluetick Coonhound, 25 pounds, 3-4 months, female
Health Condition: Excellent
Heart worm Status: Too young
Vaccinations: Will need to find out from shelter
Health Certificate: Intrastate, so not needed
Spay/Neutered: No
Special needs: No
Name of Sending Rescue/Parties: Paris, TX, animal shelter
Name of Receiving Rescue/Parties: San Antonio SPCA
Contact information (publicly viewable on forum): Jerry Dunham, [email protected], 512-961-8398
Are you a 501c3: Yes
Additional Info/situation:

Two puppies in the Paris, TX, shelter, possibly littermates, need to get to rescue. A volunteer at the shelter is driving from Paris to Austin and can bring them. That just leaves the short hop from Austin to Boerne. The problem is that the volunteer won't get to Austin until 21:00 CDT on Friday. Is there a PnP pilot who can transport at that hour available in the central Texas area? I've not been associated with an after-dark air transport before.

Thank you for any advice or suggestions.

Hey Jerry.

I could probably help with this. I don't mind transferring late later at night. I'll defer to another pilot if one comes along, though.

If anyone familiar with Boerne can chime in on the noise abatement procedures there, I don't know if they have anything special for night activity.

Thanks, Alex.

I have no idea about noise issues at night at 5C1. If a pilot more knowledgeable regarding that airfield doesn't comment by Monday I'll call down there to see. We may need to get you one of them electric airplanes. :-)

A lot of the electric airplanes charge via solar power... wouldn't work so well at night =)

I've booked a plan for Friday just in case starting at 9pm (2100). It's normally not an issue to get night hours, but I'd hate to get to Friday and not have a plane.

Let me know the status of all this as soon as you know.

Status as of late Monday:

No one else has come forward. I have tried for ground transport, but so far only have one maybe, and that is for later in the weekend, meaning we'd have to figure out what to do with the pups Friday night until boarding places open on Saturday morning. I'll let you know if something new pops up.

Thank you for your commitment to the homeless animals.

It doesn't look like anyone else will volunteer, probably because of the late hour. Alex, are you still okay with handling this transport? If so, we need to start nailing down times.

Thanks!

Sure am. I have a helping hand lined up for Friday as well.

I have the plane starting at 9 and going as late as needed. I can probably get it earlier if needed, but since the driver was estimating arrival at 2100, that's when I blocked it off for.

You should have my email already, feel free to coordinate there if it's easier for all involved.

Transport completed as planned, and the two coonhound puppies are safely in foster with San Antonio SPCA. These are great pups that will likely find homes fairly quickly, so this is a great save from a kill shelter that has difficulty finding homes for coonhounds.

Thank you , Alex, for your willingness to make a late-night transport work.
