Shelby Great Pyr-Golden Lincoln NE-DesMoines IA

Post by ChloesMom » Wed Dec 19, 2012 12:30 pm

Number of animals being transported: 1
Breeds, weight, age: Great Pyrenees/Golden Mix 101 lb. 2 y.o.
Health Condition: Excellent
Heart worm Status: Negative
Vaccinations: Current
Health Certificate: Available
Spay/Neutered: Spayed
Special needs: Large pup not suited cross country by big truck as she's too heavy to repeatedly lift in and out of cab
Name of Sending Rescue/Parties
Name of Receiving Rescue/Parties: Bill Bishop and/or pre-approved GS Rescue contact
Contact information (publicly viewable on forum): jac_thompson @t hotmail d o t com - Post or PM for phone numbers and alternate contacts
Are you a 501c3: No
Additional Info/situation: Dog was rescued from a county shelter a year or so ago - had apparently been relinquished there after defending against a strange dog. She is a guardian breed, trained to protect small livestock. While guarding flock on ranch land, she (doing her job) went after a neighbor dog that started coming onto property. The altercation occurred on the neighbor's side of property line so neighbors say dog must go.

She is a dedicated guardian dog, who is *fantastic* with people and with dogs who LIVE in her household. However, a new home in AZ has not been found and if she is returned to the shelter, she has two strikes now and will be euthanized. Shelby has a great home waiting for her in SE Iowa farm country, with people who understand her breed.

**This is a repeat plea on this thread:

There is a chance that she can hitch a ride Tucson-Lincoln (departing Tucson early Friday a.m.) and if that works out, the Lincoln NE - Des Moines IA would be the only remaining leg. Paws crossed!

Thank you!!

I can fly the Lincoln to Des Moines leg. I'm based in the Omaha area and am flexible at this point. We have a big storm coming thru tonight so only thing might be getting the hangar areas cleared of snow. Just let me know if I can help.

Thanks, Allan

Allan, thank you soooo much! I got chills reading that. VERY HOPEFUL that Shelby will fit in the car that leaves Tucson early tomorrow morning and will update as soon as I know (probably evening your time.)

Per Google Maps it's 20 hours drive Tucson-Lincoln, without any stops at all.

If Shelby fits in the allotted space, I'll report that back here and pm (or email or whatever the feature) the contact info of the driver to you etc.)

THANK YOU for taking the time to read and for caring. Shelby is a good girl and there are good people waiting for her. :D

Update: There is another rescue underway and I probably will have a leg from Cedar Rapids IA to Omaha (I'm based in the Omaha area)...so, if possible, we could fly this pup from Lincoln to Des Moines while flying to Cedar Rapids for the pickup. It might not come together but sure would make things easier for all.

Allan

PS If this pup is ready for Lincoln to Des Moines on Friday, I can do that as well.

They won't leave southern AZ until early Friday a.m. so I don't think there's any way they'd make it to NE by end of Friday.

I think they are going to York NE (56 miles west of Lincoln?) and are wondering if you would be able to pick her up in York airport (KJYR)?

We should know in ~5 hours whether she'll fit in the vehicle (there's a large male dog in transit also and she should be fine with him, but she's a big girl so there needs to be room.)

Thank you again!

ETA: I've sent this portion on to Jacque: "Update: There is another rescue underway and I probably will have a leg from Cedar Rapids IA to Omaha (I'm based in the Omaha area)...so, if possible, we could fly this pup from Lincoln to Des Moines while flying to Cedar Rapids for the pickup. AND, CEDAR RAPIDS IS EVEN CLOSER TO MT. PLEASANT, SO EVEN BETTER THAN DES MOINES!

It is a go!! Shelby is going to ride with a lady named Heidi to York NE, planning to arrive on Saturday afternoon or evening.

Is it feasible to do the Cedar Rapids transport on Sunday? I'll PM you Heidi's contact information so that you can be in direct contact with each other.
Thank you again!!

Safe travels for all as I understand there is a storm en route/in progress.
