18x18x27 isn't a problem.
Doesn't need to be split or disassembled.
TBH, the original crate worried me by about 1.5" on ONE 21.5" side.

Still waiting to get the dimensions of the opening.
It could very well be a non-issue for the original crate.

Stay tuned.

OK, so my concern is valid. The hatch to the cargo area is only 19" tall.
Having said that, I could work the crate into the back via the main door.
The pups will be jostled a bit IN the crate, but we wouldn't have to take them out.

Overall, two smaller crates are better for fitting into a plane.

Alternatively, if each pilot has a crate, as well as the people picking them up at the end, then we would only have to transfer the puppies themselves from one crate to another without worrying about whether the crate fits through the hatches.

I do have crates that I can assemble inside the plane.. The challenge simply is getting them in or out as a single piece.

Not gonna lie, I like the idea of the two smaller cat crates. This way we can do two pups in each and minimize the “collateral damage” should one of them unleash their puppystinkypoo if u know what I’m saying…. I couldn’t fit two of the larger crates we’ve been discussing but I could do one medium and one small. I’ve carried plenty of pups and medium sized dogs before and it’s always worked out but i rarely crate a medium sized dog or larger. Are the cat crates still an option?
